SQL Inventory Manager now requires less permissions for data collection. Users can collect basic information from machines without the need of sysadmin privileges. The minimum credentials required are a valid  user name and a password to connect to a machine.


Discovery without login

You can choose not to log in to instances during the discovery process, with this method Inventory Manager only collects basic information about discovered instances and it doesn't provide information on the version or edition of discovered SQL Instances. 


Log In to Instances

When you choose to log in to instances during the discovery process, you can get  get extra information like version and edition. You need to provide valid credentials for the discovered instances.
