Funnel Charts are commonly used for showing activities reflecting various stages of a process often related to sales. A funnel chart specifies levels, which follow one another in a sequence, and clearly shows you a progressive reduction of data and bottlenecks in pipelines.

Build a Funnel Chart

To build a Funnel Chart

  1. Connect to the sample data source in Aqua Data Studio.
  2. From the Dimensions pane, select Stage.
  3. From the Measures pane, select APAC.
  4. Click the tab and then click . Visualization builds a Funnel Chart.

The order of hierarchy formed in Funnel is based on the placement of dimensions in the Label Deck. You can rearrange the fields in the Label Deck, to change the order of grouping on the chart. In the following example, we have used only one dimension for building the chart; therefore, Stage forms the funnel chart and splits the slices according to the stages in the dataset. The stages are sorted in descending order based on SUM(APAC).

Show Percentage

Currently, you can only view stage names on the funnel slices. When you enable the Show percentage check box, you can also view the percentage directly on the funnel slices.

To show percentage on the funnel slices

  1. In the Chart Properties area, click Label.

  2. Select the Show percentage check box. The percentage of each stage appears on the funnel slices.

Change the Display Style

You can change the display style from funnel (top-to-bottom) to pyramid (bottom-to-top). When you change the display style, you are merely changing the visualization of the chart.

To change the display style

  1. In the Chart Properties area, click Options.
  2. In the Display Style area, click Pyramid. Visual Analytics inverts funnel-shape upside down. There is absolutely no change in the data.

Change the Slice Height

Slice height is the height of the funnel slices. By default, Visualization has built the chart using the Proportional height for each slice option where slices are larger at the top, and as the data passes from one stage to another, the height of the slice appears smaller compared to the previous slice. When you use the Uniform height for all slices option, Visual Analytics display all slices as equal irrespective of the percentage associated with each stage.

To change the slice height

  1. In the Chart Properties area, click Options.
  2. In the Slice Height area, click Uniform height for all slices.

Other Actions

Other actions that you can perform on a plotted funnel chart are as follows:  You can sort data by using various sort options available in the chart view or the Advanced dialog. For more information, see Sorting.

  • You can use highlight actions to focus on the selected funnel slice. Visual Analytics makes the highlighted slices and its data labels prominent while dimming others in the view. For more information, see Highlight Actions.
  • You can filter records directly from the chart view without manually adding any fields to the Filters Deck. For more information, see Filters.
  • You can export worksheets containing visualization to Image, HTML, and PDF formats. For more information, see Export Visualizations.
