SQL Safe is ONLY compatible with IDERA Dashboard version 4.6 and with limited support.

You can install the IDERA Dashboard and SQL Safe Backup on any computer that meets or exceeds the product requirements.

The Virtual Database product is now integrated with SQL Safe Backup.

The SQL Safe wizard helps you install SQL Safe on our common technology framework: the IDERA Dashboard. 

  • After opening the installer, click Next. 
  • Accept the terms in the License Agreement, click Next.
  • Select which components you want to install. You can select to install any of the following components:
    • IDERA Dashboard
    • SQL Safe All components
    • SQL Safe Backup Agent only

Virtual Database is integrated to SQL Safe 8.4. SQL Safe installs VDB at all times. There is no option to install either product separately.

Note

From 8.5.2 version, you can install SQL Safe without the IDERA Dashboard on Windows 2003 Operating System.

Running the combined installer will display the following message: "The current Operating System is not supported by this product".

Installing the IDERA Dashboard and SQL Safe components

If you choose to install both the IDERA Dashboard and all SQL Safe components, then follow these steps:

  • Specify whether you want to install the Dashboard on a local or remote server.
    • If you select to install the Dashboard Locally, the installation wizard displays the localhost and port 9292 by default. 
    • If you select to register on a remote server, then specify the HostName and port where it will be installed and the respective credentials to access this server.
  • Determine the installation folder. You can specify different paths for the IDERA Dashboard and the SQL Safe application. Type the name for your SQL Safe installation. 
Tip

Unique display names help you distinguish different instances of the same product if you have multiple installs. Use display names that refer to location or functionality, such as "SQL Safe West" or "SQL Safe Prod."

Note
The installation of SQL Safe Backup fails in scenarios where the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable requires Operating System updates.
The following patches are required depending on your Operating System:
  • For Windows 8.1, install KB2999226 with a pre-requisite of KB2919355.
  • For Windows Server 2012 R2, install KB2919355 with a pre-requisite of KB2919442.

Installing SQL Safe Backup

  1. Log on with an administrator account to the computer where you want to install SQL Safe Backup.
  2. Run the SQL Safe Backup installer.
  3. Before you begin, the SQL Safe Backup wizard displays information about what is needed to complete the installation successfully.
  4. Click Next and select a setup type to get started.
    1. The  Full setup installs the SQL Safe Backup and the IDERA Dashboard.
    2. The  Custom setup allows you to specify the components you would like to install.

  5. Click Next.

Accessing SQL Safe Backup with IDERA Dashboard 

Note

Take into that your should have the latest version of the IDERA Dashboard to install SQL Safe components on it.

Installing only SQL Safe Backup Agent 

If you only want to install the SQL Safe Backup Agent on your SQL Server instance, then follow these steps:

  • Select SQL Safe Backup Agent only in your installation wizard. Click Next.
  • Specify the Destination Folder where it will be installed. 
  • Determine the service account to be used by the SQL Safe Backup Agent service. The "Log on as a service" will be granted to this account. 
  • Specify whether you want to install SQL Safe Extended Stored Procedures. The SQL Safe XSP extend the Backup Agent, allowing to integrate SQL Safe backup operations with existing T-SQL scripts. You can always deploy this at a later time. By default the Extended Stored Procedures will be created using Windows credentials. If you want to use SQL Server authentication, select this option and specify the respective credentials. 
  • Once you are ready to install, click Install. 
  • When the installation completes, click Finish.

The URL used to access the IDERA Dashboard is constructed from the name of the machine on which the IDERA Dashboard was installed and the port specified for the IDERA Dashboard Web Application Service. For example, if the IDERA Dashboard was installed on a machine named MYSERVER and the Idera Dashboard Web Application Service used the default port of 9291, then the URL to access the IDERA Dashboard would be the following: http://MYSERVER:9291

Logging into the Web Application

To  To log into the SQL Safe Backup web application you can , use one of the following alternatives:

  • Type an account with permissions permission to access SQL Safe Backup (the account you provided at installation for example).
  • Select Select Log on using Windows credentialscredentials to use Windows integrated authentication and bypass the login process. (You may need to configure your browser for this option, go to Configuring your browser for Windows Authentication to find out more information).
