By setting up an action profile that tells Uptime Infrastructure Monitor how to deal with problems on a monitored system, UIM can automatically restart a service on a Windows server when that service goes down.

Configuring UIM to restart a service

To configure Uptime Infrastructure Monitor to restart a Windows service

  1. On the UIM toolbar, click Services.
  2. Click Add New Action Profile.
  3. In Name of Action Profile, type a descriptive name for the action profile.
  4. In Start Action on Notification Number, specify the number of times an error must occur before UIM sends a notification.
  5. In End Action on Notification Number, specify the number of times the action is carried out or select the Never Stop Notifying option to continually carry out the action in this profile until the problem is resolved.
  6. Complete the following settings in the Add Action Profile window:
    • Windows Host. The name of the system on which the service is running.
    • Agent Port. The port on which the UIM agent installed on the system is listening. Default is 9998.
    • Windows Service. The name of the Windows service that this action profile restarts. For example, to restart the service that creates a network connection, enter Remote Access Connection Manager in this field.
    • Action. Select Restart.
    • Uptime Agent Password. The password required to access the agent that is running on the monitored system.
    • Use SSL. Select this option if UIM securely communicates with the host using SSL. For more information about this feature, see Implementing HTTPS Browsing browsing for the Web Interface interface with Apache 2.2.
