The following instructions guide you through the installation of SQL Safe Management components in a clustered environment.

Tip

Install the IDERA Dashboard on another Server because it is not supported in a clustered environment.

  1. Log on with an administrator account to the clustered environment where you want to install SQL Safe.
  2. Run SQLSafeBackupInstall-{32|64}bit-version.exe in the root of the installation kit.

    Info

Run the installer on all the cluster nodes where you want to host your SQL Safe Management Service, whether active or inactive.

  3. In the installation wizard, select Custom, click Next.
  4. Select to install SQL Safe Backup only.
  5. Review the license agreement. To accept this license agreement, select the I accept the terms and conditions checkbox. Click Next.
  6. Determine the registration of SQL Safe with an existing IDERA Dashboard. By default, the option Yes is selected. As your IDERA Dashboard is located on a remote server, then specify the Server Name that hosts the SQL Safe Management Service and the Port number of this server. Type administrator credentials to access this Dashboard and click Next.
  7. Specify the Destination Folder where you want to install the SQL Safe Backup application. Click Next.
  8. Specify the Clustered SQL Server Instance, Database Name, and Authentication you want to use for the SQL Safe Backup Repository.
By default, the Windows Authentication is selected. If you want to use the Microsoft SQL Server Authentication, select this option and specify the login name and password for this account, and click save.
Before you continue, you can Test Connections to make sure the SQL Server instance is connected. Then, click Next.
  9. Specify the Service Accounts under which the SQL Safe Backup and IDERA Dashboard will run.
  10. Specify the account to be used by the SQL Safe Backup Management Service to connect to the SQL Safe Backup Repository Database.
By default, the Windows account specified on the previous step is selected. If you want to use the Microsoft SQL Server Authentication, select this option and specify the respective SQL Sever login credentials, and click Next.
  11. Once SQL Safe is ready to install, review the settings you selected and click Install. If you want to edit your settings, select back and make your changes.
  12. When the installation completes, you can either:
    • Go to the Start Menu: select IDERA - SQL Safe Management Console.
    • Configure the Firewall.
    • Launch the SQL Safe Management Console.
    • Click Finish.

Before you begin, open the Windows Services application (services.msc), find the SQL Safe services (SQLsafe Backup Service, SQLsafe Management Service, SQL safe Filter Service, SQL Safe Management Service, SQLsafe OLR Service, SQLsafe Collection Service, SQLsafe Rest Service), and Stop all the service status. Then, open each of the SQL Safe service properties and set their Startup Type to Manual.

If you are installing a new deployment, you must also configure the Management Service as a Generic Service Resource. Follow the steps below to perform this action.

...

Configuring the SQL Safe Management Service as a Generic Service Resource using Windows Server 2008/ Windows Server 2008 R2 and later

After installing the SQL Safe Management components on your cluster nodes, create the clustered service resource to allow SQL Safe to recognize the cluster nodes.

To create the clustered service resource:

...

  • SQLsafe Management Service
  • SQLsafe Collection Service
  • SQLsafe Rest Service

required to configure as a Generic Service Resource.

Info
You cannot perform the operation for all of them at the same time. You have to perform the operation for each one.

...

Select the SQLsafe Management Service and click Next

...

On the Confirmation window, click Next.

...

The wizard configures the service as displayed on the Configure Generic Service window.

...

On the Summary window, click Finish.

...

Then, go to Roles on the right side of the pane. Right-click on your new Generic Service Resource (SQLsafe Management Service), and then select Properties

...

On the SQL Safe Management Service Properties window, click Apply, and Ok.

Info
Add same dependencies for SQLsafe Collection Service, and SQLsafe Rest Service.

...

Go to Roles on the right side of the pane. Right-click on your new Generic Service Resource (SQLsafe Collection Service), and then select Properties

...

Click the Image Removed scroll down option, select the IP Address, and click Apply.

Tip
This service does not need a Replication Service.

...

Then, go to Roles on the right side of the pane. Right-click on your new Generic Service Resource (SQLsafe Management Service), and select Bring Online. Do the same for SQLsafe Collection Service, and SQLsafe Rest Service.

Tip

If you are going to perform a backup, register all SQL Safe Services as a Generic Service Resource.
