When you have created your Star schema design it can be useful to view a sample of the data it will contain in a pivot table, to ensure it meets your requirements.
To create a pivot table...

  1. Select an existing model version and select REPLACE WITH THIS IMAGE: Images/Common_Icons/prototype.png Show pivot table from the Workflow pane.The Create pivot table dialog is displayed.

    Note

    Pivot tables must be allowed in the category settings.

  2. On the Pivot table dialog...
    • Data source connections lists the connections that data will be sampled to create the pivot table.
    • Sample size is the total number of rows your pivot table will have.

  1. Select source entity(s) to Generate pivot table for or select the Select all chekbox.
  2. Click Generate, the pivot table is created and sample data is loaded from the source entities in the connection.

  1. The pivot table is shown in a new window.

    • The Entity combo box displays the fact table being used as the source for the pivot table.
    • The Field List contains all the fields in the fact table which you can drag into the Drop Fields Here areas above the pivot table to construct the pivot table.
    • You can also add a field by selecting it in the list, selecting the area to add it to in the combo box below the Field List and pressing Add To.
    • To search for a field enter its name into the search box above the Field List. REPLACE WITH THIS IMAGE: Images/Models/Creating a Pivot Table_7.png

      Note

      If your diagram has more than one fact table select the one you wish to analyze from the Entity combo box.
