The Net-SNMP element type is intended for servers that have a complete implementation of Net-SNMP installed on the target server. This element type generally does not work for network devices such as switches or routers. To add Net-SNMP enabled servers:

  1. In the My Infrastructure tab, click Add System / Network Device.
  2. Enter a descriptive name for the server in the Display name in Uptime Infrastructure Monitor field.
  3. Enter a description of the system in the Description field (optional).
  4. Select Net-SNMP v2 or Net-SNMP v3 from the Type of System / Device dropdown list.
  5. Enter the host name of the system in the Host Name field.
  6. If you selected Net-SNMP v2 in step 4, enter information in the following fields: SNMP Port: the port on which the Net-SNMP instance is listening.

Read Community: a string that acts like a user ID or password and provides access to the Net-SNMP instance.

  1. If you selected Net-SNMP v3 in step 4, enter information in the following fields: SNMP Port: the port on which the Net-SNMP instance is listening. Username: the name required to connect to the Net-SNMP instance.

Authentication Password: password required to connect to the Net-SNMP instance. Authentication Method: MD5 or SHA (optional).
Privacy Password: password used to encrypt information traveling between Uptime Infrastructure Monitor and the Net-SNMP instance. Privacy Type: encryption protocol for information traveling between Uptime Infrastructure Monitor and the Net-SNMP instance: DES or
AES (optional).

  1. Click Save and then Close.

After you have added pSeries servers (whether managed by an HMC or not) to Uptime Infrastructure Monitor, you can add the individual LPARs from those systems. While Uptime Infrastructure Monitor collects workload data from all LPARs on a pSeries server that have the Uptime Infrastructure Monitor agent installed (whether they have been added to Uptime Infrastructure Monitor or not), adding LPARs can help you keep track of specific LPARs for workload and service monitoring.
After installing the agent on your LPAR, add it to Uptime Infrastructure Monitor for monitoring with the following steps:

  1. In the My Infrastructure tab, click the name of the pSeries server that contains the LPAR that you want to monitor. A new window containing information about the system will appear.
  2. Click the Info tab and then click Logical Partitions. A list of LPARs will appear in the sub-panel.
  3. Click the Add to Uptime button beside the LPAR that you want to add. The Add System window will appear.
  4. If necessary, you can change any of the following options: Display name in Uptime

Description Group
Service Group

  1. Click Save to add the LPAR to Uptime Infrastructure Monitor.

It may take up to 15 minutes after adding the LPAR for the Monitoring Station to retrieve enough samples to provide historical graphing data. Online Documentation

The following steps explain how to add currently Ignored ESX hosts or VM guests back into Uptime Infrastructure Monitor for regular monitoring. This process is commonly desired when systems have been Ignored, typically in order to not exceed the number of available licenses. When a larger license is applied, use these steps to Remove select systems from the Ignored list.
Browse to the vCenter server in Uptime Infrastructure Monitor by either entering the vCenter name in the search field at the top of the Uptime Infrastructure Monitor UI or by clicking the Action gear icon beside the vCenter server in My Infrastructure and selecting View.
On the vCenter Info page, click Inventory Detail, which lists all of the ESX hosts and VM guests managed by the vCenter server. The Ignored Elements section appears after the list of actively monitored elements.
Click the check box beside each of the elements that are to be monitored and then click the Remove Selected Elements from Ignore List" button. Previously ignored elements will now appear in the list of monitored elements and the Uptime Infrastructure Monitor license count will reflect the change.
Note
Elements can also be Ignored, to free up licenses for other systems to be monitored, by checking them in the vCenter Inventory Detail page and clicking Add Selected Elements to Ignore.
The following command adds the up.time DataStore service as a dependency for running the up.time Data Collector service.
Note
This command should only be used with the default bundled MySQL database.* sc config "up.time Data Collector" depend="up.time Data Store"
