Mixed Multi-Tier Development and Deployment Model
You will typically develop your application on a Windows platform as shown in the following example but you will import the Web application from the Windows machine into the Data/Application Server.

Single tier model
A single-tier deployment model consists of a single Windows, IBM i or Linux acting as both the Web Server and Data/Application Server.
