The SQL Compliance Manager Collection Service and Repository Database can reside on separate machines. However, this setup can function properly only if the collection service trace directory is accessible from both machines.

The repository database uses queries to get trace information by passing the trace files path. 

The trace directory must be readable and accessible by the repository database service account.

To install on separate machines, follow these steps:

  1. During the installation, select a Repository Database residing on a machine different from the one where the Compliance Manager console is being installed and test the connection to make sure the DB server is accessible.

  2. During the installation, specify a Collection Service Trace Directory that is shared and accessible from both machines.

  3. For all other settings, follow the normal process of installing SQL Compliance Manager.
