The SQLCM collection service and repository database can reside on separate machines. However, this set up can function properly only if the collection service trace directory is accessible from both machines. The repository database uses queries to get trace information by passing the trace files path. The trace directory must be readable and accessible by the repository database service account.

To install on separate machines, follow these steps:

Increasing and decreasing the number of Collection Services

To configure the number of Collection Services, go to:

  1. Under the new menu item, Administration.
  2. Next, select the Collection Servers in the CM console.

Initially, SQL Compliance Manager is installed with one default collection service, running on port 5201.

Increasing and decreasing the count requires providing administrative account credentials and a manual restart of all agent services.

Trace directories can be changed and configured for each service. Default directories are named under the port used by their respective collection service.

Collection Service Health State

You can start or stop Collection Services and verify their port and trace directory by navigating to the header menu bar and:

  1. Select Auditing.
  2. Press the Collection Server Status.
  3. The following screen is displayed.

The same dialog also displays the specific Trace Directory assigned to each Collection Service, allowing you to easily identify and manage the directory paths used by individual services.
