LANSA Communication Extensions allow you to select a cryptographic algorithm to encrypt the data transmitted between clients and hosts.
The selection of the cryptographic algorithm is done in the listener's record configuration. Refer to LANSA Communication Extensions Listener Records in the LANSA for i User Guide for details.
Note: If a cryptographic algorithm is selected, the listener job will only accept connection requests from clients that support the selected cryptographic algorithm. If you have clients that are on an earlier version of LANSA Communication Extensions (versions 1.x) which doesn't support encryption, then you can only accept connection requests from them if you select *NONE.
Encrypting data has an impact in speed and use of processing resources. Depending on your security requirements, you will need to make the trade-off decision between speed and security.
If you need to enable both encrypted and unencrypted connections to your host, you will need to configure two listener jobs. Refer to Running Multiple Listener Jobs for instructions on how to do this.
