Viewing Modes

Aqua Data Studio provides several viewing modes that controls how its interface is displayed. There are four viewing modes –

  • pinned mode and docked mode (1)
  • split mode (2)
  • floating mode (3)

The default for all panels is pinned and dockable modes turned on, and floating and split modes turned off.

Pinned Mode

Pinned mode keeps the panel visible when the focus is in a different area of the main window. Unpinned mode automatically hides the panel in such cases. Initially, all panels are pinned. To switch between the pinned and unpinned mode, turn the Pinned Mode on and off.

Pinned Mode is not available when panels are undocked or in the floating modes.

Docked Mode

The panels are docked by default which means they are permanently attached to the editor. If you resize a docked panel, all the surrounding areas are automatically scaled to the new size. When you undock a panel, the panel overlaps the surrounding areas and covers the available space of the editor. An undocked panel can be resized without affecting the sizes of other areas attached to the panel. Undocked panels hide when the focus moves to a different area. To switch between the docked and undocked mode, turn the Docked Mode on or off.

Floating Mode

In floating mode, panels are detached from Aqua Data Studio’s main window and displayed as a separate, free-floating window. A floating panel can be moved around anywhere on the screen and is always on top of the editor area. Initially, all panels are in the fixed mode which means they are part of the main Aqua Data Studio window. To switch between the floating and fixed mode, turn the Floating Mode on and off.

When Floating Mode is turned on, pinned and docked modes are not available.

Split Mode

The split mode enables you to see two docked panels simultaneously. The split mode splits a panel horizontally or vertically between two groups of docked panels where this mode is turned on for one panel and turned off for another. When this mode is turned off, only one panel will be visible at a given time and will take all the space available in the panel. To switch between the split mode, turn the Split Mode on and off.

Split Mode is turned OFF

Split Mode is turned ON for the Servers panel, turned OFF for the Projects panel.
