You can combine multiple dimension fields to create a single combined field and display it in the Data Pane.

To create a combined field, select multiple dimensions in the Dimensions Pane and then right-click the fields and select Create Combined Field. The Create Combined Field option is only displayed on right-click when all selected fields are in the Dimensions Pane.

The name of the combined field combines the dimension names in the same order they appear in the Dimensions Pane, appended by (Combined). The values of these dimensions are separated by the specified separator, in this case, a comma.

Combined Field Options

The following table list the options in the Create Combined Field dialog.

OptionDescription
NameDisplays name of the combined field. The name is in the same order as the dimension appears in the Dimensions Pane,  appended by (Combined). If you prefer a different name for the combined field, then you can edit this field. You can also rename without opening the Edit Combined Field dialog by selecting the combined field in the Data pane > right-click > Rename > Rename Field.
SeparatorA character that separates values of multiple dimensions in a single string. By default, Visual Analytics uses a comma to separate entries of multiple dimensions. You can use a different separator by either choosing a separator from the list or providing a custom separator in the separator combo box.
PreviewDisplays how Visual Analytics separates values of multiple dimensions in a single string. You can change the default order of the dimensions by following the instructions in the dialog. However, the position of the Preview column cannot be changed.

Right-Click Actions

You can perform the following right-click actions on an existing combined field.

  • Editing the combined field options such as renaming, assigning a new separator, and changing the sequencing of the columns.
