Pinned Mode

...

The panels are docked by default which means they are permanently attached to the editor. If you resize a docked panel, all the surrounding areas are automatically scaled to the new size. When you undock a panel, the panel overlaps the surrounding areas and covers the available space of the editor. An undocked panel can be resized without affecting the sizes of other areas attached to the panel. Undocked panels hide when the focus moves to a different area. To switch between the docked and undocked mode, turn the Docked Mode on or off.

Floating Mode

...

When Floating Mode is turned on, pinned and docked modes are not available.

Split Mode

The split mode enables you to see two docked panels simultaneously. The split mode splits a panel horizontally or vertically between two groups of docked panels where this mode is turned on for one panel and turned off for another. When this mode is turned off, only one panel will be visible at a given time and will take all the space available in the panel. To switch between the split mode, turn the Split Mode on and off.
