The following steps show how to use the pivot table to preview the data. To see how to generate a pivot table, refer to Creating a Pivot Table for details.).
Drag the fields containing the values you wish to analyze from the Field List into the Data Fields area (shown by the label Drop Data Fields Here).

As no row or column label fields have been set yet the table will show the summation of the quantity field.

Drag in the fields containing the row and column labels to the areas marked Drop Row Fields Here and Drop Column Fields Here respectively. The pivot table updates to show these changes.

Any number of fields can be added to each of the areas. Fields added to the Filter Fields area do not have their values shown in the pivot table but can still be used to filter the data shown.

To filter the values shown based on a field click the arrow next to the field's name and select the values you want. Clicking (Custom...) allows you to set a filter based on characteristics of the data instead of selecting the specific values.

Filters can be set on the row and column fields as well.
