The Net-SNMP element type is intended for servers that have a complete implementation of Net-SNMP installed on the target server. This element type generally does not work for network devices such as switches or routers. To add Net-SNMP enabled servers:

  1. In the My Infrastructure tab, click Add System / Network Device.
  2. Enter a descriptive name for the server in the Display name in Uptime Infrastructure Monitor field.
  3. Enter a description of the system in the Description field (optional).
  4. Select Net-SNMP v2 or Net-SNMP v3 from the Type of System / Device dropdown list.
  5. Enter the host name of the system in the Host Name field.
  6. If you selected Net-SNMP v2 in step 4, enter information in the following fields: SNMP Port: the port on which the Net-SNMP instance is listening.

Read Community: a string that acts like a user ID or password and provides access to the Net-SNMP instance.

  1. If you selected Net-SNMP v3 in step 4, enter information in the following fields: SNMP Port: the port on which the Net-SNMP instance is listening. Username: the name required to connect to the Net-SNMP instance.

Authentication Password: password required to connect to the Net-SNMP instance. Authentication Method: MD5 or SHA (optional).
Privacy Password: password used to encrypt information traveling between Uptime Infrastructure Monitor and the Net-SNMP instance.  Privacy Type: encryption protocol for information traveling between Uptime Infrastructure Monitor and the Net-SNMP instance: DES or
AES (optional).

  1. Click Save and then Close.
