When selecting Data Domain as the backup location, compression, and encryption are set to "None" by default. This configuration enables the Database Domain to manage these functions, as recommended by Dell EMC, to maximize the benefits of deduplication.

SQL Safe does not support Data Domain Boost (DDBoost) client-side deduplication. For instance, to target a Data Domain, consider the following:

  • Enable CIFS, and create a share for the SQL Safe Agent.

No additional configuration on the host/database/target is necessary after creating the share.

  • In the Backup wizard, enter the same path files for the Data Domain as the Single File location type.
  • When the Data Domain is selected, compression and encryption options are set to “None” by default.
  • The restore processes are not changed.
  • Data Domain backups can be located using the Repository or File System tab.

SQL Safe supports mirror archives to up to two different locations. Any of these can be configured to use a Data Domain share.
When a mirror archive is configured:

  • A single backup process is started, and the resulting archive is written to multiple locations.
  • SQL Safe detects any write failure to a mirrored location and reports it in the Console.
  • SQL Safe sends email notifications for mirror failures if the mirror responsibility lies with the database.
  • The decision on which application should manage the mirror\replication process depends on where you want to monitor the mirror.
