Microsoft began offering a core licensing model in SQL Server 2012. SQL Inventory Manager supports this type of licensing by including a number of core licensing-specific features and fields. You can change core licensing information in the Edit MS SQL Server License Information window. To access this window, go to any of the following views:

  • Instances tab > Managed view - The Edit MS SQL License Info option on the gear icon menu next to the selected instance.
  • Instances tab > SQL Licensing view - The Edit MS SQL License Info option on the gear icon menu next to the selected instance.

Below you can see the tabs and sections where you can find Edit MS SQL License Info. Click the image to view full size.

Tip

On the Managed and SQL Licensing views, you can also select several instances at once before selecting the gear icon for faster editing of some fields. For more information about other tasks you can do on the Managed or SQL Licensing views, see Managed instances and 2.2 - SQL Server Licensing view, respectively.

Editing SQL Server license information

SQL Inventory Manager pulls license information from the associated SQL Server. As a result, you can make only limited changes to this information in the Edit MS SQL Server License Information window. Check the Fully Licensed with SA checkbox to toggle whether you want SQL Inventory Manager to prevent the license count for that server from displaying in any associated windows within SQL Inventory Manager. While the value in the Core Factor field defaults from the Microsoft-provided number based on the CPU, you can make a change in this field or in the Core Factor Table. The free-form Comments field allows you to add any notes regarding this license. Make any changes you want to the provided fields, and then click SAVE.
