Idera common framework provides the functionality to add, edit, and delete users and groups while also managing their roles. SQL Inventory Manager leverage this user role functionality to allow you to easily manage the instance permissions associated with your accounts.

There are three roles available:

  • Administrator
  • User
  • Guest

The Administrator role has privileges to access all instances If you assign the User or Guest role to a user account, Idera allows you to select any tags or instances to which you want this user account to have access. Select a tag, and the user has access to view all instances under that tag  along with any instances selected separately.

There are two radio buttons. One for ‘All Instances’, the other for ‘Specific Instances’. When ‘All Instances’ is selected the grids are not visible. When ‘Specific Instances’ is selected, the ‘ Per Instance Tag’ and ‘ Per Instance’ controls available, with checkboxes to unlock the lists themselves. If someone is being added/edited and they have no permissions at all granted, there should be a warning displayed “Warning: With this configuration, this user will not be able to view any instances.”

Each tag shown in the Tags grid should be a link. When the user clicks on a tag, a popup window should be displayed which shows all the instances under that tag. This window should be similar to the popup window displayed when ‘Browse’ is clicked in the Add Instance Wizard’s first step. See section 5.1.5 for a screenshot.

Granting permissions via tags applies to instance tags only. A database tag does not grant access to guest users to the host server unless that server also has that tag.
